The Sagar Pictures legacy is set to enter a new chapter on the big screen with Shrimad Bhagavatam Part I: Vishnurata, an ambitious cinematic adaptation inspired by one of India’s most revered sacred scriptures. Sagar Pictures Entertainment has unveiled the first teaser poster for the upcoming film, introducing audiences to what is envisioned as a seven-part theatrical saga. Quiet in its presentation yet rich in spiritual symbolism, the poster features the hand of Shri Krishna in a blessing gesture, offering a subtle first look at the world the filmmakers are creating.

The opening instalment carries the title Vishnurata, a name that translates to “the one protected by Vishnu”. Based on the Bhagavatam Mahapurana, the film will venture into a vast spiritual narrative revolving around Lord Shri Krishna, the Supreme Divine. At its heart, the project explores ideas of devotion, dharma and the timeless relationship between humanity and the divine. Rather than revealing an elaborate visual spectacle through its first poster, the makers have opted for a more measured introduction, reflecting the reverence with which the subject is being approached.

The project also carries considerable significance for Sagar Pictures Entertainment because it represents a return to the storytelling territory that helped define the banner’s identity. The Sagar name became synonymous with culturally rooted storytelling after the landmark television series Ramayan premiered in 1987 and went on to become a defining phenomenon in Indian television. Decades later, that legacy is being carried ahead by a younger generation of the Sagar family. Akash Sagar Chopra and Amrit Sagar Chopra, the grandsons of late filmmaker and producer Shri Ramanand Sagar, are co-directing Shrimad Bhagavatam Part One: Vishnurata, bringing together the heritage of the past with the possibilities of contemporary cinema.

At the same time, the upcoming film appears to be aiming for something considerably larger than a simple continuation of the family’s earlier work. The production is currently in its final stages and is being mounted with expansive production design and a carefully developed visual language. The filmmakers intend to build a world that feels rooted in realism and authenticity while capturing the extraordinary scale and imagination contained within its source material. Although the teaser poster reveals very little, its understated visual treatment suggests that the film will seek to balance cinematic spectacle with the purity and dignity of its central characters.

Perhaps the biggest statement of ambition is the decision to transform the Bhagavatam into a seven-part theatrical journey. Given the immense breadth of the source material, the format allows the filmmakers room to explore its characters, narratives and spiritual philosophies without forcing the story into the limitations of a single feature. In that sense, Vishnurata is being positioned not merely as one standalone film but as the beginning of a much broader cinematic universe. The approach could also introduce younger audiences to timeless stories and values that have remained an important part of Indian cultural memory for generations.

Presented by Sagar Pictures Entertainment, Shrimad Bhagavatam Part I: Vishnurata is scheduled to arrive worldwide in theatres in 2027 and will be released across premium formats. More details about the first chapter are expected to be revealed over the coming months as the film moves closer to its theatrical debut. For now, the teaser poster has chosen restraint over revelation, giving audiences a symbolic glimpse of what lies ahead. For the Sagar family, the project represents both a homecoming and a fresh beginning — returning to a storytelling tradition that has influenced generations while expanding it onto an ambitious cinematic canvas.
